    The Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Course is a 2-day training program designed to meet the needs of those working in public and semi-public recreational pool or water park facilities.  The AFO Course offers unique discussions on risk management and pool management as well as training in proper water chemistry, water chemistry challenges and solutions.

    The current Aquatic Facility Operators Manual will be sent to each full course registrant prior to the course.

    Upon successful completion of the AFO Course and 50 question open book exam, participants will be certified for 5 years by the National Certification Board in coordination with the National Recreation and Park Association.

    Who Should Attend

    Aquatic Directors, Recreation Directors, Water Park Directors, Pool Managers, Aquatic Supervisors, Resort/Hotel/Motel Staff, and any staff member responsible for the operation, maintenance and management of an aquatic facility.

    Park and Playground Evaluations: Lessons Learned and How-Tos

    J. Aaron Hipp, Ph.D., Associate Director | Center for Geospatial Analytics, Professor | Department of Parks, Recreation, and Tourism Management, College of Natural Resources, North Carolina State University

    In this one-hour session, Dr. Aaron Hipp, will share how to conduct park use surveys, observations, and use other municipal data to show park and playground use and support for community wellbeing. 
    The session will be divided into three sections - how-to; lessons learned from this process in Maryland; Q&A and follow-up.

    2024 Micro-Certification: Relational Leadership

    Micro-Certification in Relationship Building to Increase Value in Parks and Recreation

    Program Details

    - Throughout the course, participants are asked to engage in micro task (such as bi-weekly activity challenges, weekly LinkedIn Private Group posts, 2 virtual events, attend 1 of the free in-person KRPA Regional Education Symposiums; and complete 2 book reflections) 

    - Networking: An excellent chance to connect with fellow professionals and share experiences.

    - Earn CEUs: Participants will be eligible to earn CEUs based upon their participation in the program with the potential for up to .5 CEUs.

    - Cost: $199

    Book Reflections: Participants are required to read 2 books from a selection of books given by KRPA (Infinite Game, The Art of Gathering, The Power of Moments, or Unreasonable Hospitality) and write a short reflection on your key takeaways. First book is to be completed by Sept 1st and second book to be completed by December 31st. Audio books are very welcome, and many of the books are available at your local library or through the Libby or Hoopla app for free.
