The Kansas Recreation and Park Association (KRPA) is a non-profit, professional organization representing the parks, recreation, and leisure industry in Kansas. We represent nearly 1,400 professional, commercial, agency, board/commission, student and retiree members throughout the state.

In an effort to further assist and secure high-quality recreation and park professionals in Kansas, the KRPA Board of Directors will provide one $4000 scholarship to a junior or senior student attending a Kansas university or college with the intent to enter a Recreation and/or Park field upon graduation.

Application Deadline is May 1, 2024

Who should apply:

• Students entering their junior or senior year in the fall of 2024
• Student must be enrolled in a Kansas university or college
• Student’s intent is to enter the Park and Recreation field upon graduation

Application Process:

• Application open - March 1^st
• Application deadline - May 1^st
• Winner notified - June
• Distribution of funds- August

Terms, Conditions and Criteria

• Scholarship recipient is required to attend the Student Summit at the KRPA Conference in late-January
• The evaluation criteria for the application are divided into several categories. In terms of demographic data and academic standing, candidates receive points based on how well they align with the specified requirements. A strong emphasis is placed on the reasons behind the choice of major, with points awarded for articulation, passion, and storytelling ability. Community involvement, related experiences, honors, scholarships, and awards are also assessed, with varying point allocations depending on the extent of involvement and achievements. Additionally, the clarity and alignment of post-graduation goals with the application are considered. The quality of reference letters, transcripts, and resumes is also scrutinized for thoroughness, relevance, and alignment with other aspects of the application.
