Accessibility at KRPA
The Kansas Recreation and Park Association wants everyone to be able to use krpa.org and our Economic Impact Calculator at calculator.krpa.org, including people who rely on screen readers, keyboard navigation, or magnification. This page explains what we have done, what we know still falls short, and how to reach us if something gets in your way.
Our standard
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA, the standard most organizations and public agencies use.
What we have done (October 2026)
- Text, buttons, and headings on krpa.org meet the minimum contrast ratio for readability.
- Links inside paragraphs are underlined, so they do not depend on color alone.
- A “Skip to main content” link at the top of every page on both sites lets keyboard users jump past the menu.
- Meaningful images and image links have text descriptions for screen readers, and purely decorative images are hidden from them.
- Our donation, sign-in, and site-search fields announce their names, and browsers can fill in name and email fields automatically.
- Each page of the calculator has a single main heading, and its sign-in fields are labeled.
- On the calculator’s member pages, every field is announced by its visible label, the information buttons can be reached and read with a keyboard, and results are announced to screen-reader users when you press Calculate.
- Event “Add to my calendar” buttons and embedded videos are announced clearly.
An independent audit with the axe-core accessibility engine on October 6 and 7, 2026 found no WCAG 2.1 AA violations on the 14 main pages of krpa.org or the public pages of the calculator. The calculator’s seven member pages were reviewed the same day, and their only remaining issue is the bright green buttons noted below.
Known limitations
A few limitations remain:
- krpa.org runs on the Wild Apricot membership platform. Some parts of every page, such as the online store, photo albums, and parts of the event, member, and payment pages, are generated by the platform and cannot be fully changed by us.
- On the calculator, some headings and buttons in our brand green, including the Clear buttons, and some small captions placed over photos, fall below the recommended contrast ratio.
- The impact report that the calculator creates as a PDF is not yet tagged for screen readers. We will provide the figures another way on request.
- Text placed over photographs is checked by eye rather than by automated testing.
- Documents linked from the site, such as PDF and Word files, may not all be tagged for screen readers, and videos hosted elsewhere may not have captions.
If something is a barrier for you, we will provide the information another way.
Tell us about a problem
If any part of either site is hard for you to use, call us at 785-235-6533 or write to KRPA, P.O. Box 1283, Lawrence, KS 66044. Please tell us the page address and what happened. We will provide the information another way, such as by email or phone, and use your report to fix the page.
How we keep it this way
Staff who update the site follow a short accessibility guide covering image descriptions, headings, link wording, and documents. Peter Otte Productions maintains the sites’ accessibility layer and re-checks them after significant changes.
